Distance (Remote or Virtual) Learning Ergonomic Assessment
Students; regardless if they are K-12 or a college student, are now facing many obstacles when studying from home. From limited social contact, far greater distractions and an uncomfortable learning-space can all deter from your student's success while learning from home. Now they are spending hours on tablets/laptops often hunched over from working in their bed, at the sofa or a table that is far too high. The eyes, neck, back and wrists have the potential to become strained.
While the new norm for virtual learning started last March, almost every student now has some form of an altered classroom. And this is becoming a concern from the medical community. Dr. Theodore Ganly (an orthopedic surgeon at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) states that children, just as adults are equally susceptible to developing repetitive stress injuries due to daily work in awkward posture. Conditions such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel can manifest in as little as six months.
Unfortunately it may be several additional months until schools have all students fully returned at a 100% level. Therefore you may wish to consider investing in a remote assessment.
